Right now, we are in the middle of a pandemic with the COVID-19 virus. While we are choosing to see the blessing of more time to work on the airstream, we still wish we were back in our regular routines, teaching and socializing each day.
I have been out of work for over a month now. I am fortunate that I still have a job and that I can do it from my home. While it’s no walk in the park and brings a multitude of challenges each day, I am able to manage school work in the morning and working on the airstream in the afternoon.
My husband, on the other hand, has always worked from home and over the phone, so he’s used to this way of working. He’s still getting used to having me around, but he’s definitely enjoying the meals I make and the lunches I pack him when he’s working at the farm!!!
Here’s the obvious positive to the virus- social distancing= more time to work on the airstream. We have logged, we think (between the three of us working), around 500 hours so far on this project. Because of this, we have been able to accomplish A LOT in the past few weeks. It’s hard to believe we are this far along. July 1st deadline— HA! We are going to beat that, by a lot. What I am most thankful for during this time is that the airstream is keeping us busy. We are not just sitting in our house each day- we are building and designing. Keeping our minds sharp.
This past month has also brought our fair share of challenges and roadblocks, however. Deliveries of materials are taking longer than expected. Stores that have things we need are closed. The fear of going to Lowe’s or Home Depot- where I feel like EVERY SINGLE HUMAN in the world has the same idea to work on home projects. I don’t blame them at all- it’s just that these people are not taking appropriate precautions when they go into these stores and it makes me worry each time my husband sets foot in their doors. Still, we have made it work. We need to be two steps ahead of each project if we are going to have our materials ready and on time. I’m currently researching flooring, while simultaneously ordering sinks and faucets for the bathroom and kitchen.
COVID-19 has been a real bitch. But, I thank God for my health and my husband’s health and that we have the opportunity to share in this great adventure together. We’re itching for life to go back to normal, when we can hit the road in our finished airstream. Fingers crossed.
Much love,
Lauren
