For Brandon and Dave, this was a pretty simple step and a no-brainer, but I felt it was important to share this information because it was absolutely essential.

We knew that replacing the air conditioning/heating unit on top was necessary. The old unit was a mess and not functional. The problem with this was that you needed exterior access in order to pull it off of the trailer. And physically sitting on the top of the trailer was not going work, with flexible aluminum covering our mobile home-to-be. So, they knew that height was going to be needed.

Luckily, we had a few pieces of pallet racking laying around (Brandon and Dave sell it for commercial businesses and warehouses). This was a quick fix for scaffolding, which many others use on their projects to get some height. In about 20 minutes of double-ladder climbing, trying out different beams to find ones that would lock in place, and a lot of me handing a hammer back forth between the two men, the racking was built and ready to go.

When it was time to remove the unit, Brandon climbed up through the center vent space (which we had removed) and Dave climbed to the top of the racking and laid on top of plywood sheets put down for stability. With Brandon working below and in the airstream to remove countless rivets, screws, and dum-dum attaching the unit, Dave was ready to lift off the unit and toss it into the grass.

Like I said, something simple for a simple task. But, I thought it was pretty cool to share 🙂

Much love,

Lauren
