We had two vent fans in our airstream- one in the front and one in the bathroom. The front fan was disgusting when we bought the airstream. It had a bunch of wasp nests in it and had taken its fair share of wear and tear. We were not even confident that the fan in it would even work. It was one of the last things we removed from the previous fixtures because it would create yet another hole in the top that water could get into. We also debated trying to fix the vent fan.

Brandon ultimately decided to go for it and ripped out the old one. Only one problem- height. The boys didn’t want to rip down the “scaffolding” they built only to build it again. So they came up with a different and, of course, more dangerous solution.

Brandon’s grandmother has a tractor that is used for some extra power in some situations. This was one of those situations. Let me take the time here for a second to let you know that I was not in attendance during this activity and was not able to supervise. I just heard about the craziness AFTER the fact. So, they pulled the tractor out, put the pallet fork attachment on the front and put a wood pallet on top. Then, Brandon climbed on top of the pallet and Dave raised him up one foot at a time, adjusting the bucket to keep Brandon straight. Nuts. But it worked! Brandon was able to pull out the old vent fan and replace the new one. Good choice on my husband’s part!

Of course, this wasn’t the only opportunity to use their dangerous method of getting height. I got to witness this other opportunity at least! We had another vent fan, but this time in the bathroom. This vent fan, unlike one I’ve ever seen before, has a latch on the inside and a handle that pushes it up or down. You also have the ability to switch it off. Unfortunately, the previous vent fan location was not in a good spot. Because of our unique bathroom placement, the old vent fan was right in the way of our new wall for the shower. So, Brandon needed to cut a new hole to fit the fan. His tip for cutting a circle with a grinder? Don’t try to cut a perfect circle. Cut it like a pizza and then bend the pieces back until they pop off. Easy. Creates a nice circle.

Once the circle was cut, he hopped onto his contraption on the tractor. Dave raised him up and he removed the old vent fan. Once it was out, he put a cap on it and riveted it into place. He then installed the new vent fan so that it would no longer run into our shower wall. Easy peasy.

Much love,

Lauren
