From the very first time we saw the airstream, we knew that the windows would need work. On the left side of the airstream, we were missing a window completely. Luckily, we had a frame for the window saved in the airstream. What we didn’t notice was the crack in the front window.

We took the front window out so that we could get the glass replaced. We took it to a local glass company, who said they would be able to fix it. They gave us a choice of a variety of materials to replace it with. We picked tempered glass. It is strong and resists scratches, but it’s a bit more expensive. We went with it!

The other, smaller window was a challenge. All of the other windows were curved glass, which the glass company could not do, nor could they make recommendations about where to have it done. So, we resorted to our friends in our Airstream Restoration page on Facebook and asked what they do! We had numerous people tell us about windows they had available for us to purchase- all necessary parts included. But WOW- they were pricey. That wasn’t an option. Others gave us ideas about using a material called Lexan. Brandon latched onto the idea. It’s on our lists of tasks now, to be done soon. He even picked up the window from the glass company to also use Lexan on it. Crossing our fingers that this works!

Much love,

Lauren
